Renowned Thai actor Ray MacDonald found dead at Bangkok home at age 49

BANGKOK, Thailand – Award-winning Thai actor and television personality Ray MacDonald was found dead at his home in the Pattanakarn area of Bangkok on the morning of August 19, sending shockwaves through Thailand’s entertainment industry. He was 49. MacDonald was discovered unconscious by his wife, Sirinya Jintanawararak, at approximately 6:20 a.m., with CCTV footage later showing the actor collapsing on a sofa hours before he was found, though the cause of death has not yet been officially confirmed.

Born on May 21, 1977, MacDonald was of Thai and Scottish heritage. He spent his early childhood at Ekkamai Kindergarten before attending Traill International School, where he developed a passion for football and captained the Thamrongthai Association Youth Team, leading them to a runner-up finish at the Gothia Cup in Sweden alongside future stars including actor Shahkrit Yamnarm. He later received a scholarship to study at Millfield School in the United Kingdom before returning to Thailand to launch his entertainment career.

MacDonald rose to prominence as the charismatic host of the popular youth programme “Teen Talk,” becoming one of Thailand’s most recognisable television faces through his relaxed and engaging on-screen personality. He made his film debut in “Fun Bar Karaoke” in 1997, winning the Suphannahong National Film Award for Best Actor, and followed this success with “O-Negative” in 1998, receiving the same honour for a second consecutive year. His later performance in the 2009 film “Dear Galileo” earned him the Best Supporting Actor award at the Kom Chad Luek Awards.

Beyond acting, MacDonald became a pioneering figure in Thai travel programming, developing an unfiltered, spontaneous presenting style that inspired a new generation of creators and connected with audiences through a sense of genuine adventure. In recent years, he founded the YouTube channel Rayron, which attracted hundreds of thousands of subscribers and featured travel, conversation, and lifestyle content.
